NYDC + Candoco Summer Residency

National Youth Dance Company (NYDC) and Candoco Dance Company are working in partnership to bring you a week-long dance residency in August 2021. 

This Summer Residency is a one week, residential, dance residency for disabled and non-disabled dancers aged 16-24, and offers a unique experience to create, train and perform with Candoco and NYDC and meet other like-minded dancers. Dancers will work with experienced artists and teachers to: develop dance skills, learn, create and perform original work, and live and work as a company for a week.

 

Who is the summer residency for?

  • Dancers based in England
  • Disabled and non-disabled dancers
  • Aged 16-19 or up to the age of 24 if d/Deaf or disabled
  • Dancers must not be currently enrolled on a full time vocational dance course
  • Have some dance experience (all styles welcome)
  • Passionate about dance

When is the Summer Residency?

  • 16-21 August 2021 (arrival on the 15th)

Finances

  • There is no cost to join the NYDC + Candoco Summer Residency, We will cover the cost of the dance activity, accommodation and food during the week. Travel expenses are not covered.

Access

  • NYDC and Candoco are committed to ensuring that everyone’s access requirements are met and will work directly with each individual to ensure that access is fully embedded into the intensive.

How to Apply

  • We will be accepting applications from the 20 May, 2021.
  • We will then invite some dancers to an online audition workshop on 27 June, 2021.
  • To apply please complete an application form by clicking on the Apply Now button at the bottom of the page, by 14 June, 2021 and send us a short video of you dancing as part of the application form.

  • What to include in your video.
  • Length of Video: No more than 3 minutes please
  •  
  • Task 1: Please introduce yourself – who you are, where you are from and why you like to dance. You can do this however you choose; you can use movement, text, singing, rapping, or anything else that tells us a bit more about who you are.
  • Task 2: Show yourself improvising – we want to see YOU and how you dance. All styles and ways of moving are very welcome. This could be you dancing at home, in a studio, or in a dance class. If there are other people in the video, please make sure that you tell us which one is you.

  • You can upload your video to a video sharing platform (for example YouTube or Vimeo) and send us a link or load onto your Dropbox or Google Drive. We strongly recommend that you make sure your video is private (not public) and are deleted after August 2021.
  •  
  • Please do not worry about the quality of the film, recording on your phone will be perfect for us. The most important thing for us is that we can see you dancing. 

Covid-19

We will run the summer residency in accordance with the latest government guidance. It is our hope that the Summer Residency will go ahead in person but will keep you updated and informed should anything change. If you have any concerns please get in touch to discuss them further.
